My dogs seem to be jealous. One is older and bigger and he seems to pick on the smaller one. Advice?

We adopted a nine month old heeler mix from the humane society and already had a five month old australian shepard/heeler cross puppy. The older dog seems to be jealous of the little one and they seem to get in some pretty rough rumbles. The pup will try to get away and seems to enjoy some of the playing but she gets tired of it. I try to give equal attention and play time to both of them.My dogs seem to be jealous. One is older and bigger and he seems to pick on the smaller one. Advice?

Let them work through their issues. If you start playing mediator than you're going to cause a dog fight. Your older and bigger dog is asserting dominance and that's healthy so long as it's not carrying over to behaving that way towards you. Your dogs cannot be equals unless they are opposite sexes. Make sure to pet, give attention to, feed, etc. the heeler mix first- always. It sounds unfair but you can't choose the dominant dog and if you want a peaceful household one of them has to be in charge.
oh. ive been in the same situation..

we had a rottweiller for 6 years and got a shih tzu..

the rott lives out in the backyard in but we do let him in...

anyway :)

when they are both playing together.. butt in and play with them.

but then if you want to spend time with your 'newer' lil puppy, why not ask your dad or someone close to walk your 5month old pup?

thats what we did...

but then, after 5 months later, our big rott didn't mind me playing with my shih tzu..

your pups will get used to it ;)
Ditto. Time will heal all.

They are young enough to where the natural age will sort things out.
